A popular north county ice cream shop has a new owner.

The Post-Journal and OBSERVER have been analyzing real estate sales in Chautauqua County and recently looked at the transactions from July 1-8.

During this time period, Craig Moore sold 1016 Rt. 5 and 20, Hanover to Frosty Treat, LLC of Derby for $140,000.

On July 5, Frosty Treat announced on Facebook that the business had a new owner.

The post noted that Frosty Treat has been around for more than 70 years, starting with the Parker family in 1954-58. Moore was the eighth owner of the business, owning it from 1995-2024, the longest of any of the owners.

Chautauqua County sold 3452 Turner Road, Ellicott for $109,900.

“It has been an amazing nearly 30 years and quite a long process to find the perfect fit to continue this legacy — but a great, local family is taking over and we are excited to see what the future holds for Frosty Treat,” the former owner wrote.

The social media post states Frosty Treat is now owned by the Schmidt family.

In a separate sale, some vacant land on Route 5 in the town of Dunkirk that used to house a monastery has been sold.

G.H. Graf Realty Corp. sold 4674 West Lake Road, Dunkirk town to Robert and Bonnie Urbanik for $1.1 million.

There was a sign on the property that labeled it “Lang’s Landing.” A Northern Chautauqua Intermunicipal Local Waterfront Revitalization Program pdf on dunkirkdri.com says Lang’s Landing is a former monastery property and “would be an excellent campground or park.”

No plans have been announced for the property. Graf Realty Corp had owned the land since 1992.

Also during this time period, Chautauqua County sold 3452 Turner Road, Ellicott to Best Adventures, LLC of Jamestown for $109,900.

This is the address of the former Frank W. Bratt Agricultural Center. At one point that building had housed the Cornell Cooperative Extension offices.

CCE relocated to Jamestown Community College’s Katharine Jackson Carnahan Center in December of 2019.

In June of 2023, the Chautauqua County Legislature voted to sell the property.

In 2017, the legislature agreed to sell the property for $75,000 to Jamestown Rental Properties, but the sale fell through.

Then in 2021, the legislature planned to spend $1.1 million to renovate the building, using American Rescue Plan Act funds, which originated from the federal government, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The county ended up nixing that proposal.

Including the previously mentioned sale, from July 1-8 there were nine sales that were $250,000 or higher. The remaining top sales are as follows:

– 318 Lakeside Drive, Ellery sold for $999,500.

– 28 Elm Lane, Chautauqua Institution sold for $584,831.
